Welcome to our website!
The Center for Body Awareness was founded in 1998 as a therapeutic exercise and teaching facility committed to helping individuals improve their quality of life and “physicality” through awareness and understanding of the musculoskeletal system.
The center’s founder, Kathy Baylis Monteith, has been in practice for over 20 years as a licensed Physical Therapist (PT). She finds that a large percentage of physical disorders treated in traditional outpatient physical therapy relate to overuse injury and “poor use of self.”
The treatment and teaching provided at the Center for Body Awareness include a blend of several powerful methods including Pilates, the Feldenkrais Method® (Functional Integration® and Awareness Through Movement®), cranial-sacral therapy and myofascial release techniques.
Our goal for individuals who participate in programs at the Center are captured in the words of Moshe Feldenkrais:
“…the impossible becomes possible, the possible easy, and the easy elegant.”
We treat individuals of all fitness levels with programs designed to promote improved function targeted toward the participant's unique goals. The participant's specific abilities are evaluated as a starting point to establish the platform from which their individualized program will be developed.
The Center provides private, semi-private and group classes. Browse our web site for details regarding current schedules and fees.
